Throughout 2013 the API has hosted a range of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) events. These events have been well attended, with a strong line-up of well-informed professionals able to share their experience and provide an interpretation of the ACT property market.
The State of the Market Forum and Industry Forum/AGM are two excellent examples of the quality of events hosted by the API throughout the year.
The Industry Forum/AGM Luncheon was a pilot event for the API in 2013, with the combination of the Industry Forum and AGM. At the Industry Forum the ACT Government unveiled the ambitious City to the Lake Project, great insight into the construction sector was provided by the Master Builders Association. The luncheon keynote speaker was Paul Weightman of Cromwell.
The State of the Market was a collaboration between the API and Real Estate Institute. This event entailed robust discussion from Jim Shonk and Peter Blackshaw on the commercial and residential markets respectively. The event was moderated by Paul Powderly, who provided insight into the demand drivers of the ACT property market as whole.
As part of our CPD program the API has hosted site inspections of new, different and exiting buildings across our city in 2013. We have been honoured to be able to showcase Nishi and Manhattan on the Park, arguably two of the most prominent developments to have occurred in our CBD in recent times. At the events, great insights were provided into the processes that these developers have to go through in order to achieve these great buildings. Thank you to Amalgamated Property Group and the Molonglo Group for allowing the API to showcase your developments.

Minister for the Environment and Sustainable Development, Simon Corbell, provided an overview of the ACT Government’s planning for the national capital, to ensure Canberra is a sustainable and liveable city into the future.
Mr Corbell spoke about the Territory Plan and the ACT Planning Strategy, which will allow the Government to deliver key priority projects such as the City to Lake Plan and Capital Metro. He answered questions from the floor including those relating to LVC, red tape, development in Town Centres and Commence and Complete fees.
The evening ended with a networking function in the Palace Electric Cinema bar area.
