Marcia Bowden has been recognised for her outstanding contribution to the Australian Property Institute (API), receiving the award Life Fellow at the 2014 ACT Division AGM. Ms Bowden is only the fourth person to be awarded API Life Fellowship in the ACT and the only female to receive this award in Australia.
API divisional president, Paul Powderly, said Ms Bowden was a passionate and hardworking API member who had contributed enormously to the Institute and industry over the past 30 years.
“Marcia was the first female national president in the Institute’s 88 year history and is still actively involved in many committees, boards and industry forums,” Mr Powderly said.
“This is great recognition for such a committed and valuable person in the property Industry, and it gave me great pleasure to present the award to her,” he said.
Life Fellowship to the API is awarded to individuals for their outstanding commitment, professionalism and contributions to the property industry.
Ms Bowden said she felt privileged to service the API and was honoured to receive the award.
Since 1998, Ms Bowden has continuously been involved as a divisional or national councillor in a wide range of roles. Ms Bowden was national president in 2006 and 2007 and elevated to a Fellow in 2008.
She has worked on various committees, acted as a mentor to all member groups and undertaken many public roles for the Institute.
Ms Bowden, director of Bowden Advisory Services, currently works as a property consultant to a range of local and interstate clients primarily in lease advocacy roles .
Her previous property experience is wide and varied, including roles with the Australian National Audit Office (director, corporate services and property); the Commonwealth Department of Finance in its property disposal program; Jones Lang LaSalle (sale and leasing of ACT commercial property); the Land Development Agency (marketing and sale of government owned land); and with United Group Services (corporate real estate, tenant advocacy and strategic property planning).
