This was followed by the joint API & REI State of the Market breakfast in July, which was more popular than ever this year. Our speakers Dr Andrew Wilson of Australian Property Monitors and Stephen Byron from the Capital Airport Group provided their insight into the current state of play in Canberra’s residential and commercial property markets. Andrew Kerford then gave an update on the ACT Governments 'Mr Fluffy buyback program' and detailed the challenge the government faces in rolling out the demolition of affected properties and sale of blocks over the coming years. The event was again sponsored by ANZ Bank and Meyer Vandenberg Lawyers.
A second event was held in July, when Englobo hosted and sponsored a site inspection of their recently completed ‘Element’ project at Kingston Foreshore. The event started with a rooftop presentation of the development, which allowed a unique insight into many design ideas and features of the building, with a guided tour of the residential units, commercial office space, retail space and basement car park stackers following.
Clayton Utz again hosted and sponsored a legal update for members following a successful event in 2014. The event was presented by Alfonso Del Rio and Helen Sheridan, who addressed the issue of emails leading to immediately binding agreements. Helen presented a range of contemporary case studies and court decisions on this issue, with Alfonso then running through several practical examples property professionals may encounter. Once again, the event was very well attended with many engaging questions and scenarios discussed.
