“Just because we cannot see clearly the end of the road, that is no reason for not setting out on the essential journey... Like it or not, we live in interesting times.”
Robert F Kennedy – Day of Affirmation Address (1966)
We do live in interesting times and 2014 goes down as a special year for the API where we have seen the start of a change agenda that will help us march forward in 2015 with bold and courageous ideals and ideas for our shared future.
There are no certainties, no guarantees, no false promises – just an understanding that whatever organisational structure, governance arrangement and cultural settings we as the API move towards it will be different to that of today and very different to that of the past.
It is important we pay appropriate respect and homage to the past, especially to the people who made the API what it is today. I am excited about the new API, it is a great organisation and I see nothing but a bright and prosperous future as we move towards our 90th Birthday in 2016, and I hope that you all can join me in that journey.
Now closer to home, the festive season is upon us and the year is all but at an end. It is a time for family and friends; it is a time for coming together and a time for sharing and reflecting on a year near past and the hopes and optimism for the year to come. I do hope you take the time to share with your family and that you have a glorious Christmas and a very happy and prosperous New Year. Please stay safe, think before you drive and make the most of the time you have before the challenges and excitement of 2015.
